P137 ORACLE 137 Sun28 Dec ITV 2321:14  1/3  AUSTRALIA FOURTH TEST, Melbourne v ENGLAND  England routed Australia by an innings and 14 runs with more than two days to spare to retain the Ashes in style. It was England's quickest victory over the Aussies for 52 years. Australia, trailing by 208 runs on the first innings, were bowled out for 194 as their batsmen folded miserably. After Allan Border went for 34 the home side collapsed with their last seven wickets tumbling for just 41 runs. The England skipper said: "It was tremendous...a great team effort. It's the greatest moment of my career apart from playing my first Test". He said it was a "marvellous feeling" to have won the Ashes and England would go into the final Test in Sydney looking for another victory. He said he was "numb, disappointed and shellshocked" but he was determined to see things out and "hang in there". He had praise for Mike Gatting's men, saying they were as good an England side as he had played against "and Ian Botham wasn't even fully fit".
