P206 ORACLE 206 Sat24 Sep ITN 2100:01 FIVE JAILED OVER SEVESO DISASTER Five Italian former chemical plant managers have been jailed for their part in the dioxin disaster at Seveso. But a three-year remission of sentence was given to each of the defendants, whose lawyers said they would appeal. The five, who are on bail, received terms ranging from two to five years. Four of the men were found guilty of wilful omission to prevent the blast at the plant in 1976. A fifth was convicted of involuntary negligence. Poisonous dioxin released in the explosion caused skin diseases in children and killed 5,000 animals.
