A party of British anglers has just returned from a trail blazing trip to the Algarve in Portugal. The party, including England team boss Dick Clegg and double World Champion Bob Nudd, discovered some great fishing in this previously untapped area. Catches in excess of 100lbs of small carp were taken from lake venues, and rivers provided great barbel fishing, again giving one angler (Mark Pollard) 100lbs plus nets! more follows > Diversions 610 Bridge 616 HOLIDAYS IN IRELAND see page 387 Bridge Chess Knitting Reviews

I've received lots of letters from readers regarding the closed season debate. Here's a selection of your views... JR Moore of Somerset writes: "Every year around this time a percentage of anglers call for the close season to be scrapped. I am strongly in favour of retaining this lay off to give the fish a chance to reproduce without angling pressure. (Also to allow water fowl and the banks of our fisheries a rest!) I would like to see the whole country operating a statutory closed season. It's the only fair way." more > Diversions 610 Bridge 616 Bridge Chess Knitting Reviews

"I am one of the many disabled anglers in Norfolk who would be glad to fish year round (my wife would like to get rid of me sometimes too!). Why can't we just ban keepnets for three months?" Mick Heard of Essex says "Abolish the close season? No way! I would however change it from its present dates to May 1 to July 1 inclusive." more > Diversions 610 Bridge 616 Bridge Chess Knitting Reviews

An OAP from Essex writes "Why can't we fish more? The close season should be cut down to six weeks!" (Obviously a youngster at heart!) Keep your letters coming on this subject.
