BBC1 and ITV became colour services three years later in 1969. Given that Mike Leigh never directs scripts, Jim wasn't "entirely optimistic" that he would change his habits for this project. And Leete's one redeeming feature is his honesty - he is telling the truth, albeit as he sees it. There is a "justification for everything that he has done because of his sense of history". The portrayal is more affectionate than malicious. Although he is busy with a variety of projects including a follow-up to Gone To The Dogs, Jim definitely wants to do more writing - he found it addictive.
