He is the creation of actor Jim Broadbent who, making his debut as a writer, has come up with an incisive and very funny spoof docqlfntary. Clad in a heavy armour of tweed, with belligerence twinkling from his watery eyes, Broadbent is miraculously transformed into a crusty anachronism, a carbuncle on the classless society.  1/3 Next Feature Back-Up Sports A-Z Index

Like all good noble stock, his ancestors came over with William the Conqueror and the family have owned the land for generations. His own parents were, needless to say, imperfect. Father was handsome, inept and brutal. Mother was beautiful but thick, seeking afternoon sanctuary in a particularly potent cough medicine.  2/3 Next Feature Back-Up Sports A-Z Index

As the grand tour progresses, the recollections become more and more extraordinary, ending with the most fabulous tirade against the evils of modern life. What makes it all so enjoyable is Broadbent's brilliant portrayal and the gentle, ambivalent humour. @ 888 Subtitles # NICAM stereo  3/3 Next Feature Back-Up Sports A-Z Index
