This book is not just an account of their celebrated romance. It's more a series of candid interviews with the Grimaldi family, piecing together a revealing picture of their lives before and after the death of Grace. Without a hint of scandal mentioned it all appears too perfect, but it's an interesting biography. In another corner of the forest and quite unconnected with any of this, a fanatical terrorist leader kidnaps a cruise liner and its VIP passengers. Dirk Pitt to the rescue every time. Are Kafka's works the product of an "adult child"? Was Churchill's depression the root of his courage? And is psychoanalysis an adequate tool to examine these issues anyway?! Newton, Jung, Snow and others feature too. Storr suggests many answers in this entertaining and erudite collection of essays but also admits there are areas where his methods cannot turn up the truth. Well worth dipping into. Despite the tragedies - three keepers dead and two youngsters mauled, one only last April - Aspinall has been true to his vision that man can live at peace with wild animals. Heller acknowledges debts to many of the leading gurus in the field, which may explain why the book gives the impression of a series of independent contributions strung together within an arbitrary skeleton. In particular, the repetition is sometimes tedious. Nevertheless, the book contains many useful insights, particularly on the contrast between Japanese and Western methods, illustrated by case studies.
