The script is sharp and insightful, the direction by Tim Hunter is exemplary and draws superb ensemble performances in a quite brilliant film. Glover, in particular, is outstanding - his portrait of a troubled youth is as impressive as the movie itself. See it. Random thoughts crossed my mind while I waited for it to finish. Why did Dylan bother with so thankless a role? Who on earth believed Rupert Everett, who just pouts and poses, could make a credible pop singer? Why are the songs so awful? Why did Richard Marquand decide to make the film? And why should anyone see it? (Alan Frank) continues > BSVs Index - 540 4 O'Clock Rock 548 4 O'Clock Rock Charts Buzz Kids

Of course, the Bad Guys and lovely lethal Bad Girl Brigitte Neilsen do not stand a chance. Nor do Murphy's costars, up against his very funny scene-stealing comic capers. Murphy is in top flight form and offers great entertainment while director Tony Scott orchestrates laughs, thrills, and action into a hugely enjoyable picture.
