Members of its ruling council last week voted 25 to six in favour of a motion not to implement a decision of the annual representative meeting in August. The BMA said that any doctor who deliberately concealed an intention to carry out such a test would do so at their peril. Despite increaqfd understanding of the condition, its incidence is rising and it now causes over 2,000 deaths each year and more than five million lost working days. The Asthma Research Council, now in its Diamond Jubilee Year, said in its recent annual report that asthma sufferers do not want a restricted life dependent on drugs, but a cure. It said too that the condition must be diagnosed accurately - especially in children. An assistant to Health Minister Frau Rita Sussmuth has devised a list of prohibitions to ban smoking in all rooms used by smokers and non-smokers, even in private houses. They include banning all smoking rooms in offices and factories, creating smoke-free rooms in hotels and new restrictions on tobacco advertising. The aim is to reduce by more than half the 11.7 million West Germans who smoke. more > Home File Index 480 Childcare 486 Childcare Best Buys Knitting Your Money

It says too that other young people living in the vicinity of sites are at double the risk of their counterparts elsewhere. But, claims the report, death rates from cancer among other age groups of people living near nuclear plants are not increasing and, instead, tend to be lower than average.
