This is part of an international campaign to force manufacturers of new digital tape recorders to prevent machines being used for home taping. The record industry claim that six times more music is copied than is bought, but the Consumers' Association is against blanket taxes and technical spoilers. Rosemary McRobert, the association's deputy director, says that "all reports we have seen suggest that the quality of pre-recorded material which is Copycoded will be downgraded."
