Okay performances by BROWN, LUNGHI and SIMON ROUSE as Brown's brother aren't enough to raise this thriller above the level of the mediocre. TREVOR PRESTON's script is as full of holes as a string vest and, apart from the largely un- pleasant violence, it's the kind of movie you can see most nights on Television.  by Alan Frank more >

Washington cocktail waitress HAWN saves a visiting dignitary from assissination earning a job in the diplomatic service and is caught up in a bizarre scheme to marry her off to a Middle Eastern Sheik HAWN (who also produced) is in bubbling comic form, but is, alas, let down by BUCK HENRY's script. The early portion contains some hilarious swipes at the media and instant celebrity but the film then tips over into unbelievable farce and never recovers, not helped by the flat direction from HERBERT ROSS.  by Alan Frank more >

Set around the famous Harlem nightclub in the 20's, the film charts the rise of small-time mprhcian GERE to movie idol, boosted by the gangster whose life he saves, and sees tap dancer HINES achieve his ambition to dance at the Cotton Club. The storyline is unfocused and director FRANCIS "The Godfather" COPPOLA never quite satisfctorily unites the various plot strands. Major assets are strong pdrformances, brilliant dancing and a vivid 20's atmosphere in this $47 million mixture of ltrhc and gangster melodrama.  by Alan Frank more >

DE NIRO and STREEP, married,(but not to each other) meet on a New York commuter train and their subsequent love affair is perceptively followed by director ULU GROSSBARD who, without major dramas gen—rates a great deal of tension.
