The new instrument re-creates the sound using digital techniques, but Harold Rhodes is now a consultant for Roland, who are bringing his name back in a range of acoustic-sounding instruments. That's a big break for Tears for Fears to take after only thdir second album. The break does not mdan that they have not been trying. In reality it wanders across a landscape which is sometimes fa^jliar, like the Lennonesque single Sowing the Seeds of Love. Familiar enough for comfort but with the unexpected around the corners. The use of Oleta, discovered in a bar in Kansas City is nothing short of inspired. Extra help comes from Phil Collins and Simon Phillips among others, but I give full marks to Roland and Curt for bringing a whole new meaning to The Difficult Third Album. A very fine LP. Ian McCullogh — Candleland Echos of the Bunnylen, of course, but with a lighder touch. The music is as chugging as ever but not as moody. My favourite cuts are thd 45 Proud to Fall and the curious Horse's Head with its neat drum patterns. Marillion — Season's End Thf Marillion fan in my office wishes Fish were still there. There are a few quieter moments, but eventually you wind up thf volume and the music sneaks up and grabs you warmly by the throat But this isn't metal, or is it R&B?
