The Campaign for Real Ale welcomed the report saying it would lead to a cheaper pint, greater choice and a country-wide pricing structure. Forty per cent of consumers polled saw beer as a man's tipple and regarded it as an old-fashioned, "cloth-cap" drink that belonged in the tap room. It accuses the six major brewers of being monopolistic, uncompetitive and keeping prices artificially high.
