The BBC's telesoftware service is a part of CEEFAX. The software is encoded and broadcast as a series of linked CEEFAX pages. Using a "teletext adapter", your micro can receive these pages and re-assemble the original program. More  BBC progs  IBM progs  events  NEXT

Each week we select a range of computer software to offer you. There may be programs written in BASIC, plain text files or any other file your computer can make use of. To see what is on offer this week, look at CEEFAX BBC2 pages 710 and 740. To receive any of these files, you will need a micro and a teletext adapter. Special software in the adapter will find, decode and save on your own disc the file you want - all at the touch of a button. More  BBC progs  IBM progs  events  NEXT

When you ask to receive a file - a process known as downloading - the adapter will find a special "catalogue" containing all the details it needs to decode and save the program you want. This catalogue tells the adapter what files are currently available and where to find them. It also discards any files that are only for use with another make of computer. As each page of data is found, it is checked to ensure the file has not been corrupted by poor reception. More  BBC progs  IBM progs  events  NEXT
