Overall this is an elixir of emotional lamentation. Dead Can Dance have carved themselves a niche oblivious to any current trend in popular music. This lady is Canadian and, like compatriate Jane Sibbery she explores the further reaches of rock Unlike Ms Sibbery, Mary's musical base is a small group, un-expanded by synths and computers. The music can be as slow and smoochy as Keeping You in Mind a midnight bar-room of a song There's a rasping Tom Waits of a track too; but usually it swings under a shrill vocal. Worth a listen.
