P211 CEEFAX 211 Tue 15 Nov 20:00/00       British Coal has defended its move to open talks over the Margam "super pit" in Wales with the Union of Democratic Mineworkers instead of the NUM. Chairman Sir Robert Haslam said British Coal had waited patiently for 18 months in the hope that differences with the National Union of Mineworkers would be resolved. He said he recognised the South Wales NUM's dilemma caused by hositility to flexible working by the national NUM. "But time has now run out and we must press ahead," he said in Cardiff.
