P214 CEEFAX 214 Fri 7 Feb 19:20/10       The US Federal Aviation Administration has warned of potential problems in the Pratt and Whitney JT8D jet engine. Cracking in the JT8D's combustion chamber has been blamed for last year's disaster at Manchester airport in whic— 55 people died and a crash in Milwaukee which killed 33. The FAA says cracking has now been found in another part of the engine. It has issued a directive to all US airlines to check their JT8Ds and has also given a courtesy warning to overseas airlines.
