P655 CEEFAX 2 655 Sat 13 Jun 21:16/20       STARLINGS ON THE DECLINE 4/4 The results of this year's Big Garden Birdwatch show that an avjrage of 3.3 starlings per garden were seen. This is the lowest figure since the Young Ornithologists Club survey began in 1969. This year's mild winter may have forced fewer birds into gardens to search for food. But survey co-ordinator Tim Cleeves said: "The figures certainly reflect the estimated decline of the starling population in the wider countryside."
