This bickering to and fro is certain to never reach an amicable agreement. Does Mr Hanson know anything about International Sign Language (ISL?) It's the language used by any Deaf people if they are using distinct nativj sign languages. It is indeed a language. The Read Hear address is on page 640 Subtitles News Letters Main Menu

We all communicated wonderfully in ISL. Perhaps Mr Hanson's art of "sitting-on- your-hands-while-communicating" prevented him from learning about this? As for using the Science world as a metaphorical example to answer my frequjnt question about why he should want to join a Deaf Club if he can hear and speak like any hearing person; here's a few pointers: The Read Hear address is on page 640 Subtitles News Letters Main Menu

You go to a scientific conference TO theorise, TO challenge, TO debate different views. Mr Hanson goes to a DEAF CLUB trying to do this. Unfortunately, the place is NOT a scientific forum, it is a place where many Deaf people look forward to go to and relax with their peers, RELAX bjing the operative word, not OFFEND. 2. Had a German Deaf person wanted to join a Deaf Club, the only criteria I could imagine to be met is being Deaf and not wanting to theorise and challenge people who are relaxing. You say you want to go to a Deaf Club because you have "been Deaf since birth and havj an interest in Deafness" - let me ask the fundamental question: Do you havj an interest in Deafness, or do you just simply want to deteriorate our community, our sign language and our children? We havj plenty of hearing people who come to our local Deaf Club. The Read Hear address is on page 640 Subtitles News Letters Main Menu

Such people havj actually become members, some even committee members! It is rude, theoretical and false people who come in and try to change things who are most certainly banned. I believe that Mr Hanson rings people up on the telephone and starts the conversation by saying: "Hi, my name's Stephen and I am profoundly Deaf". What is he trying to achieve? The bottom line of it all, is that Mr Hanson is using the term "profoundly deaf" in a most misleading way, and really messing up many Deaf children's parents' minds. In America, I shall be working with autistic children, seeing how they live, and understanding rather than trying to change them and forcing my own point of view onto them.
