He wants it soft and I am going to step him up to three miles. I have been very pleased with Buttercup Joe. He was second to an ex-Flat horse at Wetherby then won over 2m3f at Hereford before his second to Mandys Mantino at Towcester the other day. Josh Gifford thinks a lot of the winner and I think that we have a nice horse in the making. We'll possibly go back to 2\m with him now, he is a big horse who would like a bit of cut in the ground.  Info Duke Comp Courses Adv.Going

He won two bumpers before winning a Bangor novice hurdle doing handsprings and then convincingly carrying his penalty to victory. I will try not to go too high too quickly with him and he will run twice before March when we'll decide whether he goes for the Swish Hurdle at Chepstow or to the Cheltenham Festival. Potter's Bay ran too freely first time but was more settled on his second run. He should not be too long in winning his novice hurdle over 2\m. He may run at Kempton or Wetherby over Christmas and I will also qualify him for Cheltenham's Gold Card Hurdle. I was delighted with Putty Road in the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot on ground that was patently too quick for him. With soft ground and plenty of pace at Cheltenham he will hopefully reverse the placings with Silver Wedge in the Stayers' Hurdle. He will make a chaser in time, he's not over big but he is a very good jumper.  Info Duke Comp Courses Adv.Going

He's a nice young horse by Moscow Society and definitely runs in the big Chepstow bumper. I think he would want further than 2m over hurdles. I am chuffed to bits with Potter's Gale. I was disappointed when she was beaten first time but at least our other runner won. She made up for that at Uttoxeter, and will have one more bumper run and then go novice hurdling. She jumps well and is a very nice filly.  Info Duke Comp Courses Adv.Going

What went wrong on her second run I don't know but she did get kicked at the start. We just want to get her show on the road but the Triumph Hurdle could be a possibility. What's Your Story was extremely unlucky not to win first time out over hurdles. He got intimidated by Cool Runner going to the last and ducked out through the wing but he goes to Chepstow this week for a 2\m novice hurdle.  Info Duke Comp Courses Adv.Going

He was then beaten by Zephyrus at Cheltenham, having made a mistake at a crucial time, jumping the last. He is improving, wants good ground and runs at Kempton on Boxing Day. Zabadi was very disappointing on his first run at Ascot but I have not lost faith in him - I'm blaming the ground. He has schooled and worked well since on soft going and he needs it that way. He's a definite Triumph Hurdle possible judged on his home work and he goes to Kempton this Wednesday.  Info Duke Comp Courses Adv.Going

He had a few niggling problems last season but duly beat stablemate Forest Ivory at Towcester when the other was sent off favourite. I couldn't have been happier with him, let's hope he goes all the way. He will go novice hurdling after one more run. The Captain's Wish is a nice young horse who is going the right way.
