In her annual Christmas message, she paid tribute to recent develo—lents in Northern Ireland and the former Yugoslavia and prayed that the message of "goodwill among men" would continue. The Queen also recalled the mass commemorations in May and August - 50 years on from World War II. Dr George Carey said that many had sensed some of the pain the Prince and Princess of Wales carried, and the sudden grief of the family of the murdered headmaster, Phillip Lawrence. He also said the trial of Rosemary West was an horrific reminder that the strong bonds that bound families together could go terribly wrong. Around 8,000 out of the 20,000 homes first affected in northern Scotland still have no power after two days. Winds of over 100 miles an hour and snow drifts qp to 10 feet deep have forced engineers to abandon repairs. But at least 100 more engineers will fly to the worst affected areas at first light tomorrow. CEEFAX WEATHER 400 and TRAVEL 500 Next News Headlines CityHeads TV/Radio
