Matt Frei reports: The Pope apparently caught a cold last night when he walked through the unheated corridors of the Vatican. He had been celebrating midnight Mass in front of 12,000 people for over two hours and was perspiring heavily. He didn't celebrate Mass in his private chapel or Christmas Mass in St Peter's. But he delivered his traditional Christmas message at the window of his private apartment.  Next News Despatch WelshNews Finance

Matt Frei reports: He looked feverish as he welcomed the onset of peace in Bosnia, Northern Ireland and the Middle East. He then abruptly broke off his traditional Christmas greetings in over 50 languages, having spoken only in Italian and French. "Excuse me, I must interrupt this," he apologized to the congregation, and left after a rushed blessing. Matt Frei reports: It was a dramatic and public moment of frailty for a man who prides himself on his physical stamina despite his age. To quash any speculation about his health, the Pope returned to the window 20 minutes later. He apologized for the earlier interruption and told the crowd that anyone can feel ill, even the Pope.
